Toledo

I have had to go to Oxford, + life in Erwarton is so full of incursions + interruptions that I have no time for anything. But last night I read a few pages of your stuff with delight. I really think it’s a work of high art. I don’t see how it could be better done. I know no one who could do it half as well. So I got - what I hardly ever get - aesthetic pleasure. Also I was so glad to escape out of this war atmosphere: - it was rejuvenating. But you must understand that I have not read more than 8 ½ pages. I look forward to tonight, then I shall read more.

Your letter is extremely interesting. Much more so than the stuff one reads in any of the newspapers. Today I feel so discouraged by the Left magazine, which has a good article on American big [bunniers?]

control of America (I’ll lend it to you, if you like) + by [connection/correction/corrosion] with Bernard + Pyke that I simply “wash my hands of the whole business.” That is rather my tune now. Especially as I’m writing a [utopian/dystopian?] book on the beautiful world of Anarchism which will eventually come. This is only a line to thank you for your smart valued letter + for the pleasure I’m going to get from Kitty.*

I write again about it soon.

Your Love,

Leo

* Leo consistently refers to Gladys’ writing project as “Kitty” in his correspondence. We do not know what project he was referring to.
